Volunteer Spotlight

Karen McGill

Our volunteer of the Month, Karen, has been volunteering at the Geneseo Food Pantry for about 18 years.  She sorts and displays clothing and other donations, helps unload the River Bend truck, cleans, sorts Christmas toys, answers the phone, and does whatever help is needed.  Karen has seven children, three grandsons, and two granddaughters.  Her hobbies include:  Making bookmarks and new jewelry out of old jewelry, and creating garden art out of old glass.  Karen said the best thing about volunteering at the Food Pantry is serving others and being the hands and feet of Jesus.  She enjoys helping clients find what they need and developing relationships with them.  Her most memorable experience at the Food Pantry was when a boy with disabilities invited her to sit with him and invited her into his world for a few minutes.  Karen said, “At the end of the day, I think God looks down at our little Pantry and smiles.”
